Recently my iPod Touch earphones gave up and I was in a look out for some good In-Ear Monitors to replace them. I did not want to compromise on the audio quality for the sake of budget and so I had kept it flexible. I had shortlisted Brainwavz M2, a couple of IEMs from SoundMagic and some from Sony and Klipsch. I had almost finalized on Brainwavz M2, when I bumped into this brand IEM from <b>Signature Acoustics</b>; a company that I had never heard before but seemed to be producing quality product. After going through a lot of reviews, checking on user feedback's, I decided to go with them. Now after using the earphones for a whole month, I feel I have made the right choice.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Interesting thing I would like to mention about Signature Acoustics is that its a Indian company, based in Mumbai and this pair of IEM is their first product. Currently I don't think there is any other Indian company that is making IEM's as good as these.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are lots of review posts out there which have covered in detail about this product. I would like to keep this short and just mention some of the points I liked and disliked about it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<b>Things I liked</b></h2>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Cost</b></li>
<ul>
<li>For <a href="http://www.proaudiohome.com/Signature-Acoustics-C-12-Elements-Wooden-Earphone" target="_blank">2788 INR</a> (45$), I think this is a good value for money product. SA occasionally have some discount offers. I had got mine with a discount of 200 bucks. I made use of a coupan code which was available online.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>The wooden shell</b></li>
<ul>
<li>I always admired speakers with a wooden shell, as it produced a superior sound quality. SA C12 boasts a complete wooden shell and this really makes it something special. It is not a common thing in IEMs in this price range and hence I went for it.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi1R6ELILAKO47cxcGci4Izrs3Wy-CYG6cng8RgEN7yNH-8xyzzf2okEwFSmLxzWgvajPBcU5tAQwI-htVXqvzGUyCwE9rD86lixNuO9BG3uMKn4uX61BIGDMwQsu-44OD6HMb70tblVA/s1600/P1060551-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi1R6ELILAKO47cxcGci4Izrs3Wy-CYG6cng8RgEN7yNH-8xyzzf2okEwFSmLxzWgvajPBcU5tAQwI-htVXqvzGUyCwE9rD86lixNuO9BG3uMKn4uX61BIGDMwQsu-44OD6HMb70tblVA/s320/P1060551-001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Build quality</b></li>
<ul>
<li>SA C12 has excellent build quality. The wire is really well wound and feels very strong; to some extent they are tangle free. The joints are also well sealed. Even though the earphone consists of wood, it feels very light. Overall Signature Acoustics has not compromised on the build quality and has done a decent job. If maintained properly, this thing should last long!</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Packaging</b></li>
<ul>
<li>Aesthetic is the word that comes to my mind to describe the packaging of this product. There was a leather carry pouch, which is of a good quality. There is also an option of going for a brass case, but its going to cost you extra.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupgQE2iQCpMFQnl0rzJORHSYxB0GITDpEdsDVKEOA13WzAudqsdUGYzOGV1hHdnp-F5JBw2LT93A-8qn4mG9599E7QhNByn-nfbvuLPGPu3ogGcEXfuy_4MA-kP_SRiAaNINnb6XrMven/s1600/P1060553-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupgQE2iQCpMFQnl0rzJORHSYxB0GITDpEdsDVKEOA13WzAudqsdUGYzOGV1hHdnp-F5JBw2LT93A-8qn4mG9599E7QhNByn-nfbvuLPGPu3ogGcEXfuy_4MA-kP_SRiAaNINnb6XrMven/s320/P1060553-001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Sound quality</b></li>
<ul>
<li>Coming to the best part, the sound quality! The first time I had tried these, I felt it was OK. But then after a burn in period of 50hrs, and changing the earcups from medium to large its turned into something amazing! The <b>BASS</b> is just awesome. I listen to a lot of Hip-hop, RnB, Pop and some Bollywood tracks and I must say this thing is ideal for such genre's. The instrument separation is also really good. I'm experiencing the same songs in a different way because I'm hearing things that were never produced in my older earphones and headphones. For more technical stuff on the sound quality I would suggest you refer the links at the end of this post.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Noise cancellation</b></li>
<ul>
<li>I commute from my home to office everyday for 2 hrs in a very noisy environment. I badly needed noise cancellation and the SA C12 does a decent job here too. With a volume of 60% in my iPod Touch, the music is enjoyable. </li>
</ul>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Service</b></li>
<ul>
<li>I haven't had any chance to test the service from Signature Acoustics, but people who have had a really good experience. Personally I was happy that the product was delivered within 3 days.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrl5eJ7Y1GrWFizPwDWQUOEKN718rl228ojdUimx30hQ4cApdjVyNwp4Us_R_PKqfCmU4r7vbiUdrx0bhuHFqKGTbfNtaSUPuv33NcT0TldyKGGzJO6TAy6AMgJLueZrGRvsaR0V48Gji8/s1600/P1060545-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrl5eJ7Y1GrWFizPwDWQUOEKN718rl228ojdUimx30hQ4cApdjVyNwp4Us_R_PKqfCmU4r7vbiUdrx0bhuHFqKGTbfNtaSUPuv33NcT0TldyKGGzJO6TAy6AMgJLueZrGRvsaR0V48Gji8/s320/P1060545-001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<b>Things I did not like</b></h2>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Accessories</b></li>
<ul>
<li>The first thing you notice about the leather carry pouch is that its a bit girly (or at least that what I felt). There is an alternate for that, which is a brass case. Even that I don't think is a practical solution as it makes it less portable.</li>
<li>I would had like another pair of earcups who's size is between medium and the large one. I'm currently using the large ones as they sound better than the medium, but the medium are more comfortable than the large ones.</li>
<li>There are couple of filters provided, but there is no instruction on how to use it or which one to use for what. So they basically seem useless to me.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>The earplugs design</b></li>
<ul>
<li>The earplugs, even though they are light and fit in very easily I think they are a little big for my taste. With the wooden design, its can look a bit odd.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>The Bass!</b></li>
<ul>
<li>If not fine tuned properly, these things can emit more bass than required. It took me some time to get the right equalizer settings and now its all Ok.</li>
</ul>
</ul>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<b>Vertict</b></h2>
<div>
People looking for IEM which has really good bass and costs below 3k, should definitely consider going for these. Even though I have mentioned some of the negative points, they are overshadowed by some of the good things you get as a package. Signature Acoustics is a definitely here to stay and I'm hoping to see more interesting products from them. </div>

My Samsung Focus is an unlocked AT&T model and I had received it with Windows Phone 7.5 OS. Once the WP8 and WP7.8 were released I thought the re-sizable tiles were very needed in my phone. Windows started releasing <b>WP 7.8 update from Jan 30th, 2013</b>. I was pretty happy and excited when I read <a href="http://soc.att.com/Y7Y3BZ" target="_blank">AT&T and Microsoft have released the software update</a>. Sadly that wasn't the case and there was no update. I waited for a month or so an finally decided to <b>Flash my phone</b>. In this post I would like to share my experience and hope to make somebody's life easier!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I started of as a noob who had no idea what it means to flash a phone, but I had gone through quite a lot of online materials to know that the worst possible thing that could happen was getting the phone "BRICKED"!! I had also read that the chances of that happening were less if I follow the steps carefully. Who knew I would brick my phone just 5 minutes into flashing! But finally it all turned out well and now I have a Windows Phone 7.8 Custom ROM running in my phone.</div>

<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Wi<span style="line-height: 24px;">ndows Phone Hacker had released a new wrapper tool named "<b>Seventh Eighter</b>" which reportedly made updating your phone to WP 7.8 easier. Prior to this there was the <a href="http://www.wpcentral.com/impatient-windows-phone-78-fetch-cab-files-and-diy" target="_blank"><b>manual cab file transfer method</b></a>. I obviously chose to use the "Seventh Eighter" tool. You can check this <a href="http://www.wpcentral.com/tool-make-installing-windows-phone-78-update-easier" target="_blank"><b>post in wpcentral.com</b></a> for detailed info on using that wrapper.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;"><br /></span></span>
<br />
Proceeding with this method, I was asked to choose the language packs supported by the phone. Luckily it was just a couple of Chinese languages and English (US). The tool threw up some errors with some error codes. I did not take them seriously and tried to repeat the process with my phone connected. Then I noticed some vague progress messages in the tool and my phone restarted. Couple of minutes after restart there wasn't much happening in the tool as well in the phone. Being a newbie I disconnect my phone from the system and THAT'S IT, phone bricked! <b>The phone would boot with the Samsung logo and then directly go into a screen showing the phone connecting to the system</b>. I'm not sure if there is any particular mode name for that.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I knew I had screwed up and so went on to try various options I had. 3 of them to be specific.</div>

<b><span style="font-size: large;">Method To Unbrick Samsung Focus</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>In case you are have Windows 8 running in your system, I would recommend you to use either Windows 7 / older operating system, because most of these hacking tools are tried and tested on them and some of them might have compatibility issues with Windows 8.</li>
<li> Install the right version of <b>SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe. </b>I say right<b> </b>version because I had to download and try around 5 different versions before the tools recognized my phone. The version that worked for me was Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0. You can download it from millions of file sharing sites out there.</li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>I found out that the right way out was to first restore the phone to stock ROM and then install the MAGLDR and WP 7.8 Custom ROM. You end with <b>MAGLDR [Info]: USBWorkDMLI_SAM.cpp (206) ERROR </b>if you try to install MAGLDR before installing the Stock ROM. <b> </b></li>
<li>This <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1581767" target="_blank">link from the XDA Developers</a> provides the necessary download links of the files required to perform the restoration process. Download the files and follow the video provided below<br />.</li>

<center>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Installing the Stock ROM will take you to Windows Phone 7 on your phone. Before proceeding to installation of MAGLDR, you have to install <b>Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center</b> tool. You can download it from <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14" target="_blank">here</a>.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Next <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=891696&d=1328640699" target="_blank">Download the MAGLDR</a> For More info on that check the <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485569" target="_blank">link from the XDA Developer</a>. <span _mce_style="white-space: pre;" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Since this blog is majorly going to be a photo blog, i thought of starting off with an introduction to my cam. This is not exactly going to be a review of the cam, coz im no expert.. Personally i think the cam is almost perfect for a casual photographer like me.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span _mce_style="white-space: pre;" style="white-space: pre;"> </span><strong>Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10</strong> <span _mce_style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 19px;" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 19px;">(also known as the DMC-ZS7 in the USA) </span>is in the market for more than a year. Panasonic persisting with this model in a very volatile camera market tells a lot about the performance of this camera.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span _mce_style="white-space: pre;" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Its comes under the category of "Travel zoom" camera's. That's probably cause of its 12x optical zoom. Normally the Point and shoot camera's dont come with this range of optical zoom. I am not going to any more spec details, but i would like to provide the review links which give a good description of this cam.</div>

<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
I bought this cam sometime in October 2011 form flipkart online store. It cost me 13000 INR (approx 265$ ). Just a few months back it costed close to 400$. The price drop according to me is mainly cause its more than a year old. It still beats some of the cams in the same range from Nikon, Canon, Sony. Anyways that's my opinion. Would like to hear from you if you have a different opinion or query regarding this cam.</div>

OpenCV as you all know is in C language. I wanted to give a nice interface to my project. Since the codes were in C, i initially thought of implementing it using Visual C++.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">3 reasons that made me drop VC++</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>The setup to make OpenCV work with VC++ was not that simple.</li>
<li>The quality of interface developed is not very good.</li>
<li>C# and some of the other .NET compatible languages are more stable than C. I came to this conclusion because for me the code in C used to crash more than in C#.</li>
</ul><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I found <b>C#</b> language provided <b>better and simpler interface development tools</b>. Thats when i started looking for .NET wrapper for OpenCV. There are lots of open-source .NET wrappers available. Here's a clear <a href="http://www.emgu.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page#A_Comparison_of_OpenCV_Wrappers" target="_blank">comparison</a> between them. Out of them i found <b>EmguCV</b> is the better one and decided to use it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

In simple words EmguCV provides C# version of the functions provided by OpenCV. So OpenCV is still needed to be installed in your system because EmguCV is going to make use of them for its working. Now you can use <b>Visual Studio </b>as <b>IDE</b> and develop interface for your opencv application!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Shifting from C code in OpenCV to C# code in EmguCV can be difficult sometimes. The main reason being there is <b>no pointer concept in C#</b> and OpenCV all the image handling mainly done using pointers. It will take sometime to get adjusted to the C# syntax. But <span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">intellisense</span> feature of visual studio can really come in handy. It is better if you could directly start off with EmguCV for rather than OpenCV.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

This is mainly because EmguCV is the connection between OpenCV ( which is purely open source) and .NET compatible languages ( Not open source ).</div></div></div>Adithyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442444383620202431noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7021587312458287835.post-6812650665338876032011-05-18T01:26:00.000-07:002011-05-18T01:36:01.426-07:00Use of Hough circles in OpenCV<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>OpenCV</b> provides and inbuilt function to detect circles in your image. <li><b>Reduce noise</b> in the image as much as possible. You can use cvSmooth( ) function with CV_GRADIENT or CV_MEDIAN types to achieve this. Also many other filters could be used depending on the image. </li>
</ul></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;">cvHoughCircles( ) is a <b>very inefficient method</b>! I had tried using it to detect the pupil in the eyes. It was a very lame try because pupil detection actually turned out to be a very complex procedure! I would like to share some of the experiments i tried by implementing hough transform.</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPBDLj-XaLrSmQMLO2VNiUgpkC6bN6RcfB-buHGzvuA4qSVuw49TRrJqUjXusYX-QWQuxFqb2i_uJkIItC4MUBlISLguCK1xBRIQcmNJ8ocNy-O1VxlVZeu3QDnV8Qyev3M0JJpl4YE_O4/s1600/hough+circle+opencv+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPBDLj-XaLrSmQMLO2VNiUgpkC6bN6RcfB-buHGzvuA4qSVuw49TRrJqUjXusYX-QWQuxFqb2i_uJkIItC4MUBlISLguCK1xBRIQcmNJ8ocNy-O1VxlVZeu3QDnV8Qyev3M0JJpl4YE_O4/s400/hough+circle+opencv+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span id="goog_1658124907"></span><span id="goog_1658124908"></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;">Initially i converted image to grey scale and applied gaussian smooth. Implemeted cvHoughCircles( ) on this image. You can see that the circle detection has been all over the place. Even the pupil which i wanted to detect is not accurate! So basically i had to <b>filter</b> more and <b>reduce features</b> in the image. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaH0dZ66jyWT9Mwcc3VWR_foKs3Ep2LRo9YL4UkZ7Y8_nNm5CzOSL9R3oERMeZrrrQyN2HHvKa8d5Zysy6jwHGxEYejk62Qh9KbdeOYm8r9Lhf4HahWPcTb68YU0OvFHQNUfDB77YG3Nea/s1600/hough+circle+opencv+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaH0dZ66jyWT9Mwcc3VWR_foKs3Ep2LRo9YL4UkZ7Y8_nNm5CzOSL9R3oERMeZrrrQyN2HHvKa8d5Zysy6jwHGxEYejk62Qh9KbdeOYm8r9Lhf4HahWPcTb68YU0OvFHQNUfDB77YG3Nea/s400/hough+circle+opencv+2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
</div><div><div style="text-align: center;">So next i just increased the intensity levels of the pixels. I can say that's one method which worked for me in this case. The number of circles detected was reduced and also a more accurate pupil boundary was detected. Similarly you can try various other filters.</div></div><div><br />

Motorola has had huge success by adopting <b>Android OS</b> for their for their mobile devices. But Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha is of the opinion that its important to own one.<br />
<br />
Android's success mainly depends on the kind of ecosystem it provides. Android market and Android developers community have a huge role to play in this. So survival of Motorola's Mobile OS depends mainly on the kind of application support it can provide. Its a tough competition with <b>Android and iOS dominating</b> with huge success.<br />
<br />
<b>Samsung</b> had tried to do something like this by introducing <b>Bada OS</b>. It hasn't had that much success but its doing pretty well with the low end touch screen models. Samsung also recently was in a hunt for Symbian mobile app developers planned to port Symbian Apps to Bada. <br />

So here are some open source softwares I found for this purpose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTcfN7qKR9wNFImcCtGtjh4Bo1Lgf0d4Nul7ZpHa1Md6k5FXI0D9NFfXlrsHBWQ1gJ0Y27VnJE-8Mm8SrloY88CfFPuESX80wiGetvk041bRk2PEYs4AuGCARfg6uY6v6ogFV2G8T4qNw/s1600/lilregcleaner.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTcfN7qKR9wNFImcCtGtjh4Bo1Lgf0d4Nul7ZpHa1Md6k5FXI0D9NFfXlrsHBWQ1gJ0Y27VnJE-8Mm8SrloY88CfFPuESX80wiGetvk041bRk2PEYs4AuGCARfg6uY6v6ogFV2G8T4qNw/s1600/lilregcleaner.png" /></a></div><b>Little Registry</b> <b>cleaner</b> it is, the alternative open source windows registry cleaner. <b>Small in size, neat and easy to run</b>. Basically removes obsolete and unwanted items that build up in the registry over time. Before cleaning the registry it also creates a backup of all your registry information so that you can roll back if the registry cleaning causes some problem. Usually there wont be a need for it, but its just a precaution for those very few instances when something might go wrong.<br />
<br />

</div></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">It has support for many languages and comes with the ability to shutdown/hibernate system after the process. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Interesting thing about this tool is its colorful interface. It also has an unique feature called <b>Optimize</b> which seems to work pretty well. It neatly aligns all the fragments into one side of your disk. All the fragments in one side clearly results in faster memory access. The screenshot is taken after defragmentation and optimization and you can see all the valid file fragments in start of the disk.<br />

</script></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Getting a digital image into numbers can be very handy for your image processing. In this post i will brief just that. I am a beginner in OpenCV and i found it very difficult to find material to do this. I was looking for storing a <b>8-bit image, 3 channel image into a 3D matrix</b>. That's the method i am going to explain in this post.<br />
<br />
Before i get on with the implementation, i would like to brief about the matrix structure that we are going to use. Its a 3D matrix; the row and column values represent the respective X and Y co-ordinates of the image. That is each value in the matrix represent a pixel. I am considering a 3 channeled image, so each pixel will have 3 channel values i.e for BGR. For more info on the matrix basic you can refer this <a href="http://www.aishack.in/2010/03/2d-matrices-with-cvmat-in-opencv/" target="_blank">link</a>.<br />
<br />
Following is the method I used..<br />
<br />
First load a 8-Bit image with 3 channels RGB and create define a matrix structure accordingly.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b>IplImage *img = cvLoadImage( "cataract.jpg");</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> CvMat *mat = cvCreateMat(img->height,img->width,CV_32FC3 );</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Next use the cvConvert function. cvConvert is a Macro provided by OpenCV which is the same as cvConvertScale() but is conventionally used when the scale and shift arguments will be let at their default values. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b>cvConvert( img, mat );</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">That does the work! Now your IplImage is stored into the matrix. You can retrieve the matrix values just by specifying the corresponding X,Y co-ordinate values in the cvGet2D function. I have used a for loop to print the RGB values of a small portion of the image.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcIvHMdCql2lp37tefW9Du8ea-S8UpzE_uQykbO2AGRxpoUWSA_Jrg1I9_f-Oxfqziy7usnjOhBMNNQsA3K3-wH0vBkVLAYFn4rLUI50rvVahASTsf5B6vMFEqNJPPsxhqwCYudWGo1v5/s1600/Untitled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcIvHMdCql2lp37tefW9Du8ea-S8UpzE_uQykbO2AGRxpoUWSA_Jrg1I9_f-Oxfqziy7usnjOhBMNNQsA3K3-wH0vBkVLAYFn4rLUI50rvVahASTsf5B6vMFEqNJPPsxhqwCYudWGo1v5/s320/Untitled.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b>for(int i=0;i<10;i++)</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> {</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> for(int j=0;j<10;j++)</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> {</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> CvScalar scal = cvGet2D( mat,j,i);</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> printf( "(%.f,%.f,%.f) ",scal.val[0], scal.val[1], scal.val[2] );</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> }</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> printf("\n");</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><b> }</b></span></div><div><br />
</div><div>cvScalar function is used to define a variable that stores the RBG value retrieved. <b>You can check the <a href="http://opensourcecollection.blogspot.com/2011/02/opencv-tutorial-references.html">OpenCV Reference links</a> for some more tutorial links on OpenCV.</b></div><div><br />

The program intended to introduce us to open source tools and later to make some contribution to the open source world.<br />
<br />
Initially i prepared myself with basic web application tools like tomcat server and mysql. Also i got more familiar with Linux operating system which supports the major chunk of open source software's. Mifos was the first open source application i worked on.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">My experience with Mifos..</span></b><br />
<br />
Mifos was a micro finance software. Its a tool to manage all the accounting information for micro finances. Ok want to know more on micro finances? then Check this <a href="http://www.blogger.com/">wiki</a> link..<br />
<br />
<ul><li>We decided to choose this tool for our internship because this tool works for a cause of helping poor people. So working on this project always felt nice. <br />
</li>
<li><b>mifos.org</b> is their official site and has very helpful content for a developers. It really helped me to kick start my understanding regarding some software concepts. The <a href="http://mifos.org/support">support</a> section provides complete information on install and deployment of a <b>war file</b>. ( Open source software's are usually bundled into war files which makes them easier to transfer ) </li>
<li>Also i was able to connect to some of the experienced developers all over the world. It was possible either through IRC chat services or by mailing.</li>
<ul><li>Check out this <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat">Wiki page</a> for more information in IRC. I think IRC is the best thing that has happened for an open source developer. You can communicate with the required person directly for free! Ya, but first you need to find appropriate channels for that.</li>
<li>Mifos has a mailing service where you can communicate with the developer. But the reply might not be guaranteed ;)</li>
</ul></ul>All in all it was an ultimate learning experience. The codes were of course complex but i had tried my best going through a few 100 files :P.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">My experience with Zoran</span>..</b><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Zoran is a web application which simulates some of management strategies. You wont find this tool on the net cause it is still not launched as of now. But i was one of the privileged to work on this project. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"> I was given a war file and the source code. Going to the implementation of this application, it uses <b>Struts framework and Hibernate technology for Database connectivity</b>. </span>I would have a separate post explaining some of the things i have learned with Struts and hibernate.<br />

Good thing about Clamwin when compared to other open source anti virus is that it has been regularly getting updates. This is mainly because of its 600,000 odd users. <span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="clear: left; color: black; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">To work on OpenCV with Code Blocks you just need to add some libraries. Following are some simple steps that I followed.</span></span></div><br />
<ol><li>First of all i assume you have downloaded the OpenCV package and installed in your system. ( Not exactly install, just extract ) If not you can <a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencvlibrary/files/opencv-win/2.0/OpenCV-2.0.0a-win32.exe/download">Download</a> it from here. </li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">Make sure the environment variable PATH is set. This could be done during the installation procedure itself. It will prompt you with this question. If you missed that then you have to manually add it.</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"> </span></li>
<li>Considering you have the OpenCV installed in your C drive, I continue with the method.</li>
<li>Open Code Blocks.</li>
<li>Goto menu Settings > Compiler and Debugger > Search Directories</li>
<li> There goto Add and add the directory <b>C:\OpenCV2.0\include\opencv</b></li>
</ol><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLVSuftu0YdZ5HGukz1D_M0Jdw1sxCLlDUhqZmTmEzLMSgBd4K3Wxyt0X0AMqZ64TkelGEASP7z0l9ETUzhVXwQOfRwvQXHnPlk39Obslkffm0SARG1c-AQXl5WxhywwDyJN0B6llq6xV_/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLVSuftu0YdZ5HGukz1D_M0Jdw1sxCLlDUhqZmTmEzLMSgBd4K3Wxyt0X0AMqZ64TkelGEASP7z0l9ETUzhVXwQOfRwvQXHnPlk39Obslkffm0SARG1c-AQXl5WxhywwDyJN0B6llq6xV_/s320/1.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> 7. In the Linker tab add the directory <b>C:\OpenCV2.0\lib</b></div><div> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS3Pk9P0xgD9kJh-qxx4VIwu-P42XKspbTy8GaEIjnTX58huCoNj2of5eECdEcWOEZvGkvOm6XGKcbwSDimZSyX2tjddzHkASKnW2tQ4QZuHZbqiC10jmTtj4hFKsG320FzlSfbWfLsQD8/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS3Pk9P0xgD9kJh-qxx4VIwu-P42XKspbTy8GaEIjnTX58huCoNj2of5eECdEcWOEZvGkvOm6XGKcbwSDimZSyX2tjddzHkASKnW2tQ4QZuHZbqiC10jmTtj4hFKsG320FzlSfbWfLsQD8/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> 8. Next click on the Linker Settings. Add all the .lib files from <b>C:\OpenCV2.0\lib\</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWnHaYEHXWRsjMIyrlTb1HbX7zd4igwEngwiHauhJgGOC8WqiIVrwBKZYd0A69dkwabiAgBSmP-ZYbuwinl4cXcYlmuuN3wfS0hKlomz7vOlBAUeYkdZNzI55uKH1spXaPGyBCkXNQOpdo/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWnHaYEHXWRsjMIyrlTb1HbX7zd4igwEngwiHauhJgGOC8WqiIVrwBKZYd0A69dkwabiAgBSmP-ZYbuwinl4cXcYlmuuN3wfS0hKlomz7vOlBAUeYkdZNzI55uKH1spXaPGyBCkXNQOpdo/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> 9. That's it!! Now you are ready to run your first OpenCV program. I tested a sample program <b>demhist.c</b> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> from <b>C:\OpenCV2.0\samples\c</b> and the output looks something like this.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgecjfYObhJvEuH22Q8RySr53785prny3JzlMEhaxxtIdQmI4psORrGaCNx144iH0id2ftHpkMuxHiSMbLQXxfDyDHipYATMfcniDe8vy0e-BTe-KG6Z3_1BJQJigZN1WV58YoTEFjrFZnV/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgecjfYObhJvEuH22Q8RySr53785prny3JzlMEhaxxtIdQmI4psORrGaCNx144iH0id2ftHpkMuxHiSMbLQXxfDyDHipYATMfcniDe8vy0e-BTe-KG6Z3_1BJQJigZN1WV58YoTEFjrFZnV/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Sometimes there are chances that even after doing the above setup, <b>codeblocks gives an error</b> <b>saying library is missing</b>. In that case copy all the .dll files from <b>C:\OpenCV2.0\bin </b>folder to your project folder ( Where your program file is present ). That should do the job!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>You can also check my post "<a href="http://opensourcecollection.blogspot.com/2011/02/opencv-tutorial-references.html">OpenCV Tutorial References</a>" where i have listed out some important links which could help you in understanding OpenCV better.</b><br />

Sadly yes, you cannot play a media file in ubuntu as it is. Even a mp3 file wouldn't play. This might be because of various reasons, but ubuntu doesn't restrict you from installing codecs that can handle these media files.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So the good news is, there are codecs for Ubuntu that can make your system play files that wouldn't run in other operating systems! Some of the weird extensions which wouldn't run in windows with vlc and K-lite codec ( which i think are the best players for windows ) ran fine in Ubuntu. OK so to install the codec's just click the below link.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="apt:ubuntu-restricted-extras"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Install Codecs</b></span></a> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">For more themes click on the below link. It will install you all the themes from the community package.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="apt:community-themes"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Install Themes</b></span></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">You can also download theme. Usually it will be a .tar.gz file. Just goto </div><div style="text-align: center;">System --> Preference --> Appearence</div><div style="text-align: center;">There you have an option ti install themes. Just browse for the theme location and install.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">There is a very nice tutorial to install Mac theme for Ubuntu by <a href="http://maketecheasier.com/turn-ubuntu-lucid-mac-os-x/2010/06/01" target="_blank">MakeTechEasier</a>. Seems to work pretty well!<br />

I would also suggest you to install Cairo Dock which can totally change your desktop looks. Its one of the most impressive open source software's I have seen (though there are some bugs here and there!!) and is worth a try! Just type the below code in your Konsole.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>sudo apt-get install cairo-dock</b><br />
<br />
Or you can visit their site <b><i><a href="http://www.glx-dock.org/" target="_blank">Cairo Dock</a></i></b> and install directly.<br />

The project was about bug fixing in a web application. So i had to install some of the basic tools - server, jdk and some others. I chose tomcat6 as my server and went on to install. This post is basically for the beginners. So i am going to keep it very simple.</div><div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The one simple method available for Ubuntu users is installing through the Synaptic Packet Manager. </div><div style="text-align: center;">You can find this tool at System > Admistration.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-JdNX75Xfbir5yMrtxJ0JbKe9qBJ-U5ImcL2Q8aV9x4UfgV1MS870o7DkfytjZDNsmhPDCpmNiHeF99lo_SfepElCuxPtzj1dg-IVKM9yAvXvRLh91BUrtt3zn1_PTe4vDbZVTni4WMWO/s1600/Screenshot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-JdNX75Xfbir5yMrtxJ0JbKe9qBJ-U5ImcL2Q8aV9x4UfgV1MS870o7DkfytjZDNsmhPDCpmNiHeF99lo_SfepElCuxPtzj1dg-IVKM9yAvXvRLh91BUrtt3zn1_PTe4vDbZVTni4WMWO/s320/Screenshot.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Searching for tomcat you will see something like the above screenshot. Just right click on the main tomcat6 and mark for installation. Then click on Apply to install. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">To start the server type the following command in the terminal.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>sudo service tomcat6 start</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now goto your browser and type <a href="http://localhost:8080/">http://localhost:8080/</a>. You will see a message like "It Works" if the tomcat is up and running. </div><br />
<div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The problem i found with this type of installation was finding the server directory. When installing through synaptic the application files are distributed in various folder. If the library files are in <b>/var/lib/tomcat</b> directory config files will be put in <b>/usr</b> folder. This becomes a problem you want to connect tomcat to eclipse. The solution to this is the <b>manual install of tomcat</b>!</div><div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">First download the tar.gz binary distribution file from <a href="http://tomcat.apache.org/">http://tomcat.apache.org/</a>. Next follows some simple commands to be executed to setup <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">tomcat.</span></div><div><ol><li>Move the tar.gz file to /usr/local/src and extract it. You can either simply right click the file and click on extract or type the following commands in the terminal.</li>
</ol><div style="text-align: center;"><b>tar xzvf file_name.tar.gz</b></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">or</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>tar xjvf file_name.tar.bz2</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br />
</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b> </b>2. Now you have to setup the environmental variables. Use the following commands.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"></span><br />

This is still the same old "open-source supporting" blog. But i just thought of adding some personal posts into it. I would be including some very interesting things happening to me in daily life.. =)<br />
<br />
Let me now start briefing about this post. Last week i had an awesome experience driving to a location <b>60km from Manipal</b>. <a href="http://wikimapia.org/2756318/Kudlu-Theertha-Seetha-Falls" target="_blank">Click here</a> to know the exact location. It all started when me and my 2 cousins Abhiman and Krishna met at a function. It was a coincidence that all 3 of us were on vacations and all were in mood for some adventure!<br />
<br />
Krishna is the pro biker and has covered almost all places in a radius of 200km around i can say :p He suggested the falls "<b>Kudlu Thirtha</b>". Abhiman who had just finished his intern ( @ Reliance :O) got pretty excited and agreed for it. Even i was OK. So we all decided to leave for this place the next day that was July 27th.<br />
<br />
So the next day, we all reached the starting location and were all set to go. The day was surprisingly bright ( was raining heavily from past 2 days!! ) So Krishna, the over optimist didn't get his jacket.. We all set off at around 12am.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXOSh2qWGWPTPvN9WncJN-DzTHbGvE662ZbolEAnzzDcbZvgSldzPHoDdOnQrxMKTgg_PoZkJcMDCg0lMPPLIg4HsXGbbDl8ooPskZO0ClJ_bJylDCHaHnjZOg1-MymMIzEk04Dg48wsBN/s1600/DSC00580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXOSh2qWGWPTPvN9WncJN-DzTHbGvE662ZbolEAnzzDcbZvgSldzPHoDdOnQrxMKTgg_PoZkJcMDCg0lMPPLIg4HsXGbbDl8ooPskZO0ClJ_bJylDCHaHnjZOg1-MymMIzEk04Dg48wsBN/s320/DSC00580.JPG" /></a></div><br />
The roads were awesome! (Its the same way to Shimoga through Agumbe Ghat ) It reminded me of the NFS MostWanted tracks and like we were in a pursuit ;) My bro was always leading me as i had no chance overtaking his mighty 150cc CBZ bike with my 100cc Platina :P<br />
<br />
Soon as we crossed Hebri ( which is 30km from Manipal ) we happened to get some very beautiful farmlands and high hills. And guess what..? We started clicking snaps!! Though none of us had an actual camera we tried our best with the 2MP cellphone cams :P<br />
<br />

Everything was going fine until we took a deviation from the main road and entered a dense forest. Rain had to come sometime and it thought this was the right time! We stopped to get our jackets on. Though we had a very nice tree for cover we decided to move cause we were behind schedule. Krishna zoomed off with his BEAST before i even started my bike. And when i tried starting it, it wouldn't start!! There i was in the dark jungle with heavy rain ALL ALONE! I couldn't stop cursing my bike as it never started even after some 100 kicks! No network connection made me leave with only one option... WAIT FOR KRISHNA AND ABI.. ( Who were taking extremely long time to return which left me freaking! :P ) After a 5-10min wait i was able to see them coming back. God it was such a relief!! And then my "Pro biker cousin" Krishna starts the bike in just 2 kicks!! I just couldn't believe it.. It was like the bike was waiting for it to be started by the pro biker :p<br />
<br />
After that incident we didn't stop for a while as we both didn't want such an event to happen again :d The rains had done one good thing. Fill the mountain valleys with beauty! It was greenery everywhere and we couldn't resist taking some more snaps.<br />

Next we had a quick drive to reach the spot from where we had to take a route meant only for the bikers. At this time no 4 wheelers can goto the falls as the road leading to it is heavily flooded by River Sita. So we had to take a narrow bridge to reach the other side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoydssbRPbzLV64E68z9qGFS-24VlvpTpUmgc4TRd-NE531PQIOwPif3bLuwHTsd6MVsfVASOZO4ggQUz_pHzShcRk80PKusmwrnBPfmFPuCbA6sGDU6vKcxbiPQzDoethwpckMRT5mPAH/s1600/DSC00566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoydssbRPbzLV64E68z9qGFS-24VlvpTpUmgc4TRd-NE531PQIOwPif3bLuwHTsd6MVsfVASOZO4ggQUz_pHzShcRk80PKusmwrnBPfmFPuCbA6sGDU6vKcxbiPQzDoethwpckMRT5mPAH/s320/DSC00566.JPG" /></a></div><br />
After this it was a complete rally track with all slippery roads, deep curves, ups and downs reminding me again of the NFS ;)<br />

</tbody></table>Finally we were through the dense jungle to reach the spot. Seems people over there steal petrol from your bike. So we had to find some safe place to keep our bikes. Luckily we found a house who let us in :) The guy also helped us with an umbrella and a "thing" that could help us fight the LEACHES!! "The thing" is some mixture wrapped in a cloth. He also gave us a bad news.. that the way to the falls is blocked because of the heavy flood waters! :( Now that was a big twist in the tale for us!<br />
<br />
But Krishna didn't want to leave just like that. So we went on to try to reach as close to the falls. A few more snaps coming up.<br />

So after 6-7hrs of tough driving, untill we reached my aunts place at parkala. We had some serious racing in between which was obviously won by the "Pro biker"!! :P It was an amazing experience. A must go destination for all the nature lovers. Also bikers will love the tracks! But i would suggest you not to go in the rainy season. The falls will still be alive in the later parts of the year. So sometime right after the rainy season will be perfect! Ok that's about our journey. That definitely made my vacations!! ;)Adithyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442444383620202431noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7021587312458287835.post-3945760722130971872010-07-24T20:16:00.000-07:002010-07-24T20:32:21.898-07:000 A.D<div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNfnLWM0igbr42r9OUcH9LrkYQl2XcUoa8ijsvudUt32XyaP0Hu9NB7CIlopeiGGIIYuG1OIWoZN7LvbCp4Dg6Gj_zN8D2y6nM1FL2AnR-9P4LxvFjfDSw_bZHLhD5hnNh2MEjPLKXQRd3/s1600/album_image.php.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNfnLWM0igbr42r9OUcH9LrkYQl2XcUoa8ijsvudUt32XyaP0Hu9NB7CIlopeiGGIIYuG1OIWoZN7LvbCp4Dg6Gj_zN8D2y6nM1FL2AnR-9P4LxvFjfDSw_bZHLhD5hnNh2MEjPLKXQRd3/s320/album_image.php.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Yes, even with a faster boot speed in the new Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 people are finding new methods to further speed it up! :) I tried the following tip and it does prove to speed up Lucid.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: auto;">Its a very simple tip and uses <b>profiling</b> i.e use a profile during boot. OK let me brief the method in 4 simple steps.</div></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">1. Open console/terminal. First you have to open the grub file. You do it by typing.<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">sudo gedit /etc/default/grub</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"></span>Enter the password and proceed to open the file.<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<br />
</div><div>2. You will find the some commands like these.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_DEFAULT=8</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_TIMEOUT=5</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=" vga=792"</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> In the 6th line i.e </span>GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" add <b>profile.</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"> So it will become <b>GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash profile"</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"> In some cases splash might not be there. Just make it "quite profile". Save and close.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">3. After that come back to back to your terminal and execute a grub update. Then reboot system.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br />
</b><br />
<b>sudo update-grub2</b></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>sudo reboot</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><b><br />
</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;">4. Now again goto the grub file and remove the profile keyword which you had inserted previously.</div><div style="text-align: left;"> Update your grub using the above command and reboot.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

One of the annoying things with Ubuntu's update is the frequent Kernel update's. And every time there is a kernel update there appears a bunch of entries in your grub. So this post is basically going to help you get rid unwanted entries in the grub in a simple way.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Not much to do actually. Its a very simple 2 step process. There are many grub menu edit methods using which you can just edit the grub. But what i have here is completely deleting the older kernel from your system. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Ns6IEy7yVNWr8AJKMiIGZmQ-AVn2PWRst7Aa_ziqfybL3xR04MzJuiGOFaASxdr9ZB0GoNKiHwd3WUgBiBN1gESxzN9FlQixIFUe31hN2U52yP0rDyyTLKzXakLEnIjbmLUe0Vi0uN8E/s1600/sshot169.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Ns6IEy7yVNWr8AJKMiIGZmQ-AVn2PWRst7Aa_ziqfybL3xR04MzJuiGOFaASxdr9ZB0GoNKiHwd3WUgBiBN1gESxzN9FlQixIFUe31hN2U52yP0rDyyTLKzXakLEnIjbmLUe0Vi0uN8E/s400/sshot169.png" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So if you consider the above image, kernel 2.6.32-22 is the latest version in the system. If there are only 2 version of kernel in your system then you might want to keep the previous version as a backup. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Basically if your deleting then you start by typing the command</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 16px;"><b> sudo apt-get purge linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic</b></span></div><div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you have multiple kernels to be deleted then repeat the above step.<br />
Next you have to update your grub. This is done by the simple command..</div><div><br />
</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>sudo apt-get upgrade grub</b></div><div><br />
</div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Now restart and you see your grub is all cleaned up! :)</div><br />
<br />
<br />
